Pasana Group Incorporated, Mission Statement

  1. To teach Milne Bay traditional canoe building, navigation and environmental awareness to the youth of Papua New Guinea.

  2. To connect and collaborate with other Pacific traditional voyaging and canoe building groups.

  3. To empower and promote female sailors in Papua New Guinea.

  4. To promote Papua New Guinea culture to an international audience.

Current Project

Pasana Group has received a grant by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung for a two year project (2024 to 2025) with the aim of erecting a canoe house and school in Lumo Lumo Village on Basilaki Island and to build a traditional Sailau voyaging canoe. The project is executed with the oversight of Potsdam University (Germany) and lead by Dr. Miriam “Mimi” George (USA).
